How to set up WiFi on all Windows Platform

Wireless Setup for Windows 8

Step 1: Requirements



Do you have all of the wireless equipment needed? You will need:
  • 1. a wireless modem
  • 2. a computer with built-in wireless or a wireless adapter

Step 2: Verify Wired Connection



Before following these steps, can you browse the Internet when connected directly to the modem or router with your Ethernet cable?

Step 3: Find the SSD




By default, wireless is already enabled on most CenturyLink modems. The default wireless settings usually located on the bottom of the modem. Please locate the SSID, since you will need it to configure your operating system. 

Step 4: Connect to the SSD

In the system tray (usually in the bottom right corner of your computer screen), click (or double-click) the icon for your wireless connection software (see examples above). It should list your SSID (wireless network) from the previous step. Select your SSID (wireless network).

Here are the instructions for connecting to a wireless network:

Sometimes the wireless on your laptop accidently gets turned off by bumping a button, switch or hitting a key combination. This makes it so that your laptop can no longer connect to wireless networks.

Step 5: Find the Key



Your operating system will ask you to enter a key/passphrase or WPS PIN. Locate the requested information from the bottom of the modem.

Step 6: Verify Modem Settings



To verify the wireless settings in your modem:

1. Connect a computer directly to your modem using an Ethernet connection.
2. Open up a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox.
3. In the address bar type http://192.168.0.1*, then hit enter on your keyboard.
4. Select Wireless Setup, the wireless settings will be located on step 3 or 5.

After getting the wireless settings, you will need to  Connect to the SSID (Discussed Earlier) 

Step 7: Purchase the equipment
